Baltimore's Irish Do It Up Right

Sad, sad rainy day...St. Patty's Day will be cold and dreary...perhaps a little too similar to Ireland. Well, this Irish girl will probably end up spending this St. Patty's Day in doors doing homework.

But last weekend was the Baltimore City St. Patty's Parade! This year, unlike last, I wore closed toe shoes and made sure to protect my feeties, see last year's scary post about how I burned my feet.

My 2 girls and I got all dolled up and headed downtown to drink our Harp and eat our Sheppard's pie.

Kristin got her drinking face on: We got a wonderful parade viewing spot right next to some fine and rowdy Irish folk. We saw the Bag Pippin and the Irish Clog Dancers!

Everyone was wearing the lucky color. There was even a dog who got dressed up for the occasion!

The weather was warm, the sun was bright, the parade was merry, and we were Irish drinking.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

Testing, testing....And We're Back!

I can't believe I've taken almost two weeks off from blogging! Truth be told, I haven't really been knitting that much. I've been overwhelmed with job applications, social commitments, forms that have to be submitted for graduation, etc. And it's only going to get worse till June!

My local knitting group had a stash swap this weekend and I suddenly got those tingly feelings back in my fingers. My needles were drawn to my hands like magnets to a fridge and before I knew it I had knitted for a good 6 hours this weekend.

I actually hosted this lovely little stash swap on Saturday. We had about 6 women and way too much yarn. It should be illegal to have so much yarn laying around and not being used. This is a rough shot of what was on the "table" to be exchanged:

At the point the picture had been taken some of the yarn was already in the hands of it's new owner. At the end I came out with just as much as I had donated to the pile to begin with...but don't I look happy!?

Oh, and that little prepackaged project I'm holding up was donated bySarah. It's a knitting with fabric kit! It's suppose to make a cabana beach tote! Ooh la la!

I must finish the CPH though before I'm allowed to even start planning new projects. During my hiatus from blogging I did do some knitting. I cheated on my CPH with the flower washclothes I mentioned a few posts back. I finished two of them.
Even though I ordered enough of the recommended yarn to produce two more washclothes I don't think I'll use the recommened Chenille Cotton for a couple reasons. First, I broke the yarn a couple times transitioning from my circular needles to my DPN's because the yarn had no elasticity and I'm a very tight knitter. Second, the yarn is not very absorbant. It absorbs like any fabric would but in a washcloth you are really looking for something that will wick moisture away from your skin and this particular fiber creates a fabric that has a low absorbtion capacity...does that make sense? I'm gonna make a couple more with differnt yarn. The pattern was a lot of fun and I was able to whip them up in about 2 hours! I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to take a break from a long project, especially if you are seeking a quick result.
Happy Knitting!
